I’ve always loved reading. Books are my fuel—my way of pausing, breathing, and remembering who I am in the middle of motherhood. Lying in bed in the dark with my Kobo often gives me the perspective I need to keep going! Some of the wisest lessons I’ve learned haven’t come from having all the answers, but from simple words that meet me in ordinary moments.
Here are a few books that have helped me notice God’s wisdom in the everyday—through motherhood, faith, and the quiet places in between.
1. The Reed of God by Caryll Houselander
“The growth of Christ in us is a slow thing. It is the beauty of growth that it is imperceptible.”
This line reminded me that wisdom doesn’t happen all at once. It grows slowly—in the unseen corners of life. Some days I feel like I’m just going through the motions. But then I remember: showing up with love, again and again, is already part of His work in me.
2. Holier Than Thou by Jackie Hill Perry
“God is not only holy; He is trustworthy. And His holiness means He cannot fail you.”
This helped me realise that wisdom begins with trust. In motherhood, I often want to control every outcome. But true wisdom calls me to let go and rest in God’s character—faithful, holy, and unfailing.
3. Abandonment to Divine Providence by Jean-Pierre de Caussade
“The present moment is always full of infinite treasures.”
I read this during a season where every day felt the same. This quote helped me see that the wisdom of God is right here—in the messy, normal, sacred now. I don’t need to chase the next season to find peace.
4. What to Do When I’m Gone by Suzy Hopkins & Hallie Bateman
“If it’s not life or death, don’t spend too long worrying about it.”
This book is both witty and grounding. It made me laugh, and also helped me loosen my grip a little. Sometimes, wisdom is a reminder to not overthink the little things, and just choose grace instead.
I hope these books bless the next mama who’s feeling tired, searching for meaning in the middle of the day-to-day. May they remind you—like they reminded me—that wisdom is often quiet, slow, and deeply kind.
If you’ve read something that has shaped your heart lately, I’d love to hear about it. Share in the comments or send me a message—I always welcome a good book recommendation.
